The Language of Learning

At Two by Two Childcare Academy, we embrace both childcare and teaching using our own unique methodology – The Language of Learning. Blending the Creative Curriculum and the Reggio Emilia Approach, we work with our children to ensure that they are learning in the best possible way for them.

Creative Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum is a widely accepted teaching strategy that balances both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning. It puts an emphasis on responding to children’s learning styles and building on their strengths and interests.

Based on sound developmental theory and evidence-based scientific research, our Creative Curriculum encompasses the following:

Abraham Maslow – Theory of Basic Needs & Learning
Erik Erikson – Emotions and learning theories
Jean Piaget – Children learn at their own pace
Lev Vygotsky – Children need to fulfill basic needs
Howard Gardner – Theory of Multiple Intelligences
Sara Smilansky – The importance of play in learning

Key components of the creative curriculum include: Literacy, Mathematics, Social Studies, The Arts and Technology, which allows children to develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively.

Reggio Emilia Approach

The Reggio Emilia Approach
is an innovative educational philosophy that, when combined with the Creative Curriculum, sets our methodology apart from our competitors.

This approach to teaching treats children as protagonists. Alongside the parents and teachers, children are the main characters in the story of learning.

Working in small groups, the children communicate through language, movement, drawing, painting, building, dramatic play and music.

Teachers are not only nurturers and guides, but they also act as researchers, asking questions to learn more about the children’s background knowledge and interests. They build their curriculum around the answers to these questions.

Children are given the opportunity to construct their own learning styles, develop a strong sense of self and become better equipped to use problem solving strategies independently.

What does
this mean
for your
child?

We teach all of the fundamentals of the Creative Curriculum, but we do so in an interactive and personalized way. We understand that children are explorers. They come to us with their own unique interests and preferences. They want to learn – to explore the world around them. At Two by Two Childcare Academy, we embrace this. We customize our curriculum around the interests of our children so that they’re more engaged and inspired to learn. We utilize parents as participants in the learning process. We send home journals detailing your child’s educational journey and our open door policy invites you to join us whenever you can.

Our Language of Learning defines who we are as a school. We strive to give our children the education they need to build a foundation for a successful life and to do so in a way that excites children to continue learning when they walk out our doors.
